Save our Local Economy, Three Stores at a Time

The North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce has joined with our community partners and other local business organizations to endorse and promote The 3/50 Project, a new “shop local” initiative sweeping across the country. It’s based on a simple and effective approach:

3 - Think of three local businesses you’d really miss most of all if all of a sudden you found they were gone. Stop in and say hello. Pick up a little something. Your contribution is what keeps those businesses around.

50 - Spend $50 - it doesn’t have to be all in that one store. The idea is to commit at least $50 each month to local businesses, total.

1 - The number of people it takes to start the trend - you!

Let’s start this holiday season. Together, small incremental changes in our spending habits CAN and WILL make a difference. Modest but important change results when a larger share of our dollars stays and circulates in our community. We know that times are tight and everyone needs to find ways to stretch their dollar, but when we spend locally, we invest in our community and support our neighbors and friends; we increase sales tax revenue that helps pay for public services, and we help keep local businesses in business - many of these contribute back to the community through generous donations to charitable and other important causes. The 3/50 Project doesn’t mean spending $50 more each month, but shifting money you already spend so that it generates more community benefit. Spending locally also helps conserve resources, such as fuel, and one of the most precious resources of all - time.

Local business organizations that have joined together to support The 3/50 Project in our region include the North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce, North Tahoe Business Association, Tahoe City Downtown Association, Incline Community Business Association, Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce and Truckee Downtown Merchants Association.
